It’s inevitable! It’s challenging! It has existed for a long time. We have seen it in the works of science fiction. But the record pace at which artificial intelligence and robotics is now approaching, it’s not hard to predict that the robot uprising is coming!

People are already raising concerns. Will AI replace humans? What impact will it have on society? Is ChatGPT a writing machine? Will it make the writers redundant? Will DALL.E replace the artists? So many questions! I think, given the billions that Microsoft has pumped in to this advancing technology, it is going to make a formidable impact. Just like a city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden, you would have to be living in a cave with earmuffs on to not notice it.

Some of my friends who know that I blog and do content writing, ask me if ChatGPT is affecting my profession? It’s like asking, did the calculators threaten mathematical ingenuity? Did the rise of machines cause cottage industry to perish? Did the computers pose a threat to office assistants? Did the tax software eliminate the accountant? The same logic applies to booksellers, postal services, travel trade, teachers, libraries et al. No, it won’t. Because, the core of human creativity comes from fluid intelligence, which is beyond the reach of artificial entities.

Let me tell you a story.

“Once upon a time in a small village, there lived a lonely girl named Lily. She grew up in poverty, various hardships in life. Despite the difficulties, Lily possessed a kind and resilient spirit that would carry her through the most challenging times.

I was curious to see what ChatGPT could do. So, I decided to type a query: “can you write a story on the life of a lonely poor girl in 10000 characters?” And, voila! This is the power of openAI. To me, this experiment was both exhilarating and somewhat unsettling to witness.

How was the grammar and syntax? Spot on. Was it conversational? Yes. Would it drum up any professional leads? Sure, yes. How long did it take to tell the story? Just 10 seconds. Did it sound like it was written by a human? Yes. Perfect flow and well-researched too. Was it a persuasive and compelling storytelling? Somewhat; more like it was imparting information. Overall, not bad at all. It is indeed a handy writing tool. It’s not a perfect parallel, but then you could always improve and tailor the content separately to your liking and include social media later. Fact is, it would have written a book, had I asked it to… and then converted it into an ebook, picture-book, video, animation, endless possibilities to explore here! This is just a tip of the iceberg.

OpenAI or any similar language model is indeed a powerful and versatile tool with astonishing capabilities... way beyond our imagination. It would suffice to know that AI has large amounts of information on everything and everyone, and this combined with the sophisticated and complex algorithms, gives it the capability of interpreting, synthesizing and translating between multiple informational modalities.  It has the potential to transform life as we know it, making serious changes in medicine, green energy, food production, education, finance, sports, transportation, agriculture, entertainment, customer service and more elemental facets of human existence.

In our journey into a future, we know that machines are going to occupy significant roles. Whether they could pose a threat to humanity, remains to be seen as this notion seems extreme and uncertain. However, like a big fish would eat a small fish, social manipulation of both individuals and nations is likely to occur.

Even so, let’s hope that by harnessing the remarkable capabilities of machines alongside human ingenuity and creativity, we can unlock unprecedented advancements and embark on new frontiers of discovery.
